How Could Artificial Intelligence Affect The Digital Marketing Industry?
Business desk concept - DIGITAL MARKETING

Artificial Intelligence. It’s in the news everywhere, and it’s creeping into our lives at a rather alarming rate. With the effect on most industries being a rather negative one, will the digital marketing industry be affected equally as much?

It can’t be helped, that somewhere along the line, intelligence will help to aid marketers worldwide. We are already implementing it into our PPC strategies even if we don’t realise it. The best PPC agencies will no doubt be using software that learns patterns and optimises bids and budget. But will this progress? Will we soon be using robots to write our ads or design our landing pages?

Steven Hawking wrote that “the automation of factories has already decimated jobs in traditional manufacturing, and the rise of artificial intelligence is likely to extend this job destruction deep into the middle classes, with only the most caring, creative or supervisory roles remaining.” We can see that AI already has a dampening effect on job prospects and this will only worsen. With the marketing industry being heavily digitalized, there is no reason why, in a few years time, robots couldn’t perform the actions humans today.

It’s also important to see the positive side to this potential worldwide takeover. With data analysis being a crucial part of succeeding in the digital marketing industry, AI has the potential to actually be rather beneficial to us. AI will be able to read and analyze data far better than any human ever could. They could help to improve our advising by providing data for optimum ad times or the most effective visual effects!

Should we be worried? Potentially, but it is important to remember, that humans will always be able to spot and know things that robots can not. AI working alongside humans would provide the most optimum balance and should not provide a detrimental affect on our industry but no one can predict the future. Not even AI!
