What is click fraud?

Click fraud is when competitors, bots or malicious users repeatedly click your Google Ads with no intention of buying. It wastes your advertising budget on fake clicks that will never become customers, and it is one of the biggest hidden costs in paid search.

What is click fraud protection and how does it work?

Click fraud protection is a service that monitors every paid click on your ads in real time, scores it for fraud, and automatically blocks the suspicious sources. It identifies patterns like repeated clicks from the same IP, bot behaviour, VPN use and competitor clicking, then excludes the offending IPs from your Google Ads so they cannot keep wasting your budget.

How much does click fraud cost businesses?

Industry research suggests up to 20% of all paid search clicks can be invalid. For a business spending £2,000 a month on Google Ads, that could mean around £400 wasted every month. Competitive sectors such as legal, finance and trades are often hit hardest.

Does Google not already block invalid clicks?

Google does filter some invalid clicks and refunds the obvious ones, but its system does not catch everything. Can you protect against competitor click fraud?

Yes. Competitor click fraud, where rivals click your ads to burn your budget and push you off the page, is one of the most common types we block. We detect the repeat-offender patterns behind it and exclude those IPs across all of your campaigns automatically.

Do you offer click fraud protection for e-commerce?

Yes. Click fraud protection for e-commerce covers your shopping ads and product campaigns as well as search. High-value product keywords are a prime target for competitors and bots, so we score those clicks for fraud and block invalid traffic, which protects your budget and keeps your store analytics clean.
