When you really think about how Google understand our search terms and provides us with industry leading search results it is extremely easy to forget that, believe it or not, Google is not human.

Goole have informed us that their search engine is improving in terms of understanding our natural language searches by specifically better handling superlatives, times and increasingly complicated questions.

For example, Google state that they now break the query down too understand the intent of the searcher in order to provide the absolute best results possible.

We have been provided with a couple of examples of the type of questions Google can now answer, apparently by understanding superlative such as “tallest”, “largest” along with ordered items.

For example you can ask Google:

“Who are the tallest English football players” and the search results that you can see would be much more relevant.

Also they have improved the results we are shown when we are searching for information regarding a certain point in time. They claim to be doing a much better job at understanding questions with dates in them along with processing our much more complex questions efficiently.

Google are obviously still trying to perfect this process and understand there is still some way to go, but they’re working hard in order to ensure we have the best user experience possible.
