[fusion_text]Is picking up your daily lunch all about to change? Retail giants, Amazon have launched their latest retail development named ‘Amazon Go’ in simple terms it is a high tech corner shop, but are Amazon paving the way for an automated life?

What is Amazon Go?

Amazon Go is a just like your typical corner shop except there is no checkout, that’s right no checkout! Amazon identified everyone’s frustrations of waiting in queues, so they developed technology to get rid of them simply.  Amazon has labelled their pioneering development as the ‘Just Walk Out Shopping Experience’, which is set to keep our lives moving faster!

How does Amazon Go work?

So I bet you’re thinking how is this entire operation going to work? Well, let me shed some light on the technology behind this experience. The checkout free experience uses similar technology to what is found in self-driving cars, computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning are simultaneously used to provide the ‘Just Walk Out Shopping Experience’. To break it down further the system automatically detects when products are taken and returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual shopping basket. When you have finished shopping you simply leave the store and shortly after your Amazon account is charged and a receipt is issued, it’s that simple.

What is on sale at Amazon Go?

Amazon Go are offering a range of ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack options made fresh every day, and they also have a selection of groceries and your kitchen essentials like bread and milk. So to keep it simple Amazon Go is your super speedy, super easy corner shop experience minus the checkout. Amazon wanted to keep the shopping experience as normal as possible by the customer simply browsing and selecting the products but with the bonus of just leaving the store.

Why did Amazon build Amazon Go?

Amazon first came up with the concept 4 years ago, their initial thought was, why do we need checkouts? Should we still have queues in these days? Amazon was in the firm belief that with today’s advanced technology they could push the boundaries and create a simpler customer shopping experience. With this in mind, the Amazon Go and Just Walk Out Shopping was born.

Now for the downside!

This all sounds great! I bet your thinking, I’m hooked, I want to go shopping right now! Well, I am sorry to say you’re going to be disappointed, Amazon has currently opened one store, which is located on 7th Ave, Seattle, WA. So the only way to sample this shopping evolution is if you are heading to Seattle for your annual holiday. But don’t book your tickets just yet, the first store is currently open to selected Amazon employees for testing but is set to open in early 2017, so watch this space![/fusion_text]
