About the client

Total Drainage: emergency drainage across the south of England.

Total Drainage is a family-run drainage company. Its website says it offers 24/7 emergency call-outs across Dorset, Hampshire and Wiltshire, with no call-out fee and free fixed quotes, and that it also covers Somerset, Berkshire, Surrey, Bristol and West Sussex.

The services it lists are blocked drain clearance, CCTV drain surveys, drain repairs, no-dig patch repairs and relining, new PVC installations, septic tank emptying and rodent entry prevention. It states a ten year guarantee on relining and patch repairs and five years on new PVC installations.

A blocked or flooding drain is not something people plan for. They search from a phone, usually in the middle of the problem, and ring the first company that looks real and local. A drainage website therefore has one overriding job: get the visitor to a person fast, and show them it is a local firm they can trust with their home.

DPOM designed and built the site, hosts it on its own server and runs it on Nova CMS. Total Drainage is also a Google Ads, SEO and call tracking client of ours.

What it needs to do

What the website has to do.

The home page has to work in the first few seconds. Someone with a blocked drain wants a number to ring, a sign that the firm covers their area and a reason to trust it, before they will read anything else.

The rest of the site serves the people who are not in an emergency: homeowners comparing a CCTV survey with a repair, landlords, and people searching for a service in their own town.

What the site is built to do

  • Put the phone firstA call button, a WhatsApp button and the 24/7 number are visible from the first screen, on every page.
  • Show where the firm worksA page for the areas covered, with the postcode areas for each county, so a visitor can tell quickly whether the firm reaches them.
  • Explain the services plainlyEach service and guarantee is set out in plain English, with a four-step process so the visitor knows what happens after they call.

What we built

What we built for Total Drainage.

We designed and built the site around the call, on Nova CMS, and host it ourselves.

The build, step by step

  1. Step 1Lead with the callThe first screen offers a call button, a WhatsApp button and a short callback form, with the 24/7 emergency line in the header.
    More detail

The callback form asks for a name, a phone number and the type of problem. It emails the firm first and, since 9 October 2026, also records the enquiry in the client's Mission Control leads.

  2. Step 2Set out the services, the guarantees and the areasSeven services, a four-step process, a no-dig explanation and the ten year and five year guarantees each have their place on the page, and a dedicated page lists the counties and postcode areas covered.
  3. Step 3Add guides for the questions people searchSix guides cover blocked drain clearance, CCTV surveys, relining, jetting, septic tank emptying and what to do with a blocked drain.
    More detail

Each is written around a question a homeowner would type into a search engine, .

  4. Step 4Build it on Nova CMS, and host and secure itThe firm can edit any text or image from the page itself, and we run the hosting, SSL certificate and backups.

How it performs

How fast the site loads.

On a slow phone connection, which is how a lot of emergency searches happen, the home page shows its largest content in 1.9 s. We measured this ourselves; we have not been given the site's traffic or enquiry figures, so this page does not quote any.

Measured by DPOM on 17 October 2026 with a headless Chromium browser on our own server, on a first visit with our own and third-party tracking blocked, median of three runs. The phone figure is a 390 pixel screen on a slow 4G connection with a CPU four times slower than normal; the desktop figure is a 1440 pixel screen with no throttling.

What we measured

  • Phone, slow 4GLargest content on screen in 1.9 s on a 390 pixel phone, on a slow 4G connection with a slowed processor.
  • DesktopLargest content on screen in 0.25 s on a 1440 pixel screen.
  • Layout shiftLayout shift of 0.004 on the phone run, where Google rates anything under 0.1 as good.
