Google has lost its deal with AOL that it has held since 2002 but in the same breath AOL only controls around 1% of search traffic in the US.
When Google first signed their deal with AOL they were still an up and coming company and it was a huge achievement. They managed to renew the deal until now – the latest renewal being in 2010.
Google currently controls around 65% of search traffic in the US – 65 times more than AOL – so it remains to be seen whether Google will even feel the burn from the deal.
That being said it is still a great win for Bing as they passed 20% search traffic control and with AOL added to this they continue to creep forward.
The deal will commence on the 1st January 2016 and it is quite intriguing to see how this plays out.
