Google have announced the coming release of a new type of ad extension; The Promotion Extension. What is it and how will it drive to increase CTR?
For as long as we can remember, advertisers have used sales and promotions in their ad headlines and ad text to attract visitors to their site. Although this is popular and often successful technique, doing this uses valuable, limited characters in an already short ad text. Furthermore, I don’t know about you, but we haven’t all got the time to be changing our ad text every few days to highlight the latest offer!
In the past, Google has temporarily released Black Friday and Cyber Monday structured snippets exclusively for these holidays but there has never been any super easy way to highlight promotions during the rest of the year. But this is all about to change!
AdWords promotions extensions will show a noticeable price tag beneath your ad to highlight a sale on your website. You can even specify details around your promotion such as any minimum order values or if the sale is for a particular occasion.
Having quality ad extensions of any kind can significantly increase CTR. During beta tests, Adwords clients have seen amazingly high CTRs from these promotion extensions, averaging at nearly a 10% CTR.
The new promotion extension is already available in beta and only to accounts that have access to the new AdWords UI. But won’t worry, these will be rolled out across the board to everyone soon!
